If you want to practise your Spanish, attend Conversemos En Espanol, a Spanish conversation group being held weekly at the Waterloo Public Library’s Harper branch.
Under the direction of a Spanish teacher, those who attend will learn a lot about the Spanish language and will practise speaking it by chatting with others. The drop-in conversation group takes place on Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. and is held in partnership with the University of Waterloo. All levels are welcome. The program runs until June 20.
Regina Vera-Quinn, a University of Waterloo professor in the Faculty of Arts’ Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies, said although everyone is welcome it is still recommended that they have level one Spanish in order to enjoy the whole experience.
She said many postsecondary institutions offer Spanish classes, including the University of Waterloo, and recommended people who don’t speak the language at all enrol first in a Spanish course before attending a
Conversemos En Espanol drop-in session.
“Learning Spanish could be a great asset when applying for jobs, when travelling or just for personal reasons. Those who have attended the program enjoyed the whole program. It is a social get-together more than a learning, intimidating test class.”
The Harper branch is located at 500 Fischer-Hallman Rd. N., in Waterloo.
