Conestoga Collage will use a phased-in approach for returning to in-person classes on campus. Before the winter semester began, many online classes were to remain that way until Jan. 31, when students would finally be able to attend in-person classes on campus.
“To reduce the number of people on campus and help limit the pressure on strained community and health system resources for the next few weeks, the college will continue a phased approach to return-to-campus,” the college announced in a statement posted to the website.
Students who are currently attending certain classes on campus can continue doing so with no changes. On Jan. 31, essential in-person learning activities for some programs will begin to transition to in-person learning. More exceptions will be made on Feb. 7.
When students and staff are on campus, they will be required to wear three-layered masks provided by the college. They must also be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and be prepared to show proof of vaccination on Conestoga’s mobile safety app.
“Enhanced infection prevention and control measures in place on all campuses provide additional layers of protection as we return to more in-person learning and working over the next few weeks,” said the college in its statement.
The extension of remote learning may not be shocking because the effects of the pandemic have caused many changes in learning over the past two years.
Lydia Mead, practical nursing student, says she feels indifferent about the extension.
“I think a lot of people maybe suspected that this would be the case come the end of January, especially when you see other schools continuing remote learning as well,” Mead said.
“But I’m so used to how things have been that it’s totally fine for me to stay in a remote learning situation. I’ve gotten to experience the campus for a few of my classes already so I’m not too disappointed.”
As for parking on campus, staff and students will be able to do so without a parking pass until March 7.
“Additional information regarding the issuance and purchase of parking passes will be provided in the upcoming weeks,” said the college in its statement.
