Police and the Crown attorney’s office are proceeding with charges against 58-year-old Udo Haan of Kitchener after a Sprucedale Crescent house exploded around 8 a.m. on Aug. 22.
Haan has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Edresilda Haan, who was found deceased in the backyard. Udo Haan faces additional counts of arson with disregard for human life and two counts of arson with damage to property.
Udo Haan was found critically injured and was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital after the explosion, which also damaged two nearby homes. He remains in hospital under police guard.
