With the 2018-19 NBL Canada season right around the corner, the KW Titans are gearing up at their training camp in preparation for their opening night in less than a week’s time.

The Titans have been battling with themselves for over two weeks now in some heated competition over at RIM Park in Waterloo, where their training camp is being held.

The team is looking to build on some late-season progress that came after a head coaching change last spring in an otherwise disappointing season. The Titans’ new head coach, Cavell Johnson, is hoping to show a rejuvenated squad to their fan base this year, with some familiar faces and some new ones as well.

“We’re building something special, man,” coach Johnson said excitedly. “We’re building a culture and an atmosphere of winning and a ‘take-what-I-want’ mentality and these guys are embracing that mindset and our KW region and fans are going to be very pleased with what we put on the floor.”

The Titans had a lacklustre season last year, to say the least, finishing with a record of 8-32, which leaves the team with a ton of room for improvement this time around.

Although KW is coming off a poor showing last season, the team’s front office, coaching staff and players alike are all very confident in what they have in store once they hit the hardwood on opening night.

“The feel from this training camp to last season’s is night and day,” centre Derick Hall stated. “I think this year we’re going to have a really good team. [We’ve] got a bunch of dogs, for sure, so, we’re ready to get this going.”

“We’re going to make some noise this year,” veteran point guard Ed Horton boasted with confidence.

The KW Titans are set to kick off their 2018-19 campaign on Sunday, Nov. 18, at The Aud when they face off in their home opener against the visiting Sudbury Five.
