CBC-KW hosted its annual Sounds of the Season event at TheMuseum in downtown Kitchener on Friday morning, raising more than $5,800 within the first two hours for The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

More than 300 people joined The Morning Edition, with host Craig Norris, for an early morning of fundraising, selected guests from the community and plenty of music. Guitarist Juneyt Yetkiner was the house musician.

Guests on the live-to-air event included K-W Glee, which performed several selections; veterinarian Marie Hardy and her dog Luna; musicians Diana and Mike Erb of Twas Now ; accordionist Rick GuzikKevin Thomas of Big Jerk and food columnist Andrew Coppolino.

Jennifer Judges, communications specialist for the food bank, said many people don’t realize it’s busy for the food bank throughout the year, although more donations are received during the Christmas season.

The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is still accepting donations through its event website.

A group of Conestoga Journalism students volunteered their time to assist at the fundraiser. They included Elnaz Akbari, Melissa Burks, Lachlan Fraser, Anannya Gupta, Jen Muir, Matthew Nowell, Broderick Visser and Kiyana Wheeler.
