On Sept. 28, 2022, Conestoga Students Inc. had its monthly meeting, and the most important topics discussed related to advocacy for students and the group’s policy stances.

There were a few future projects that were brought up in the meeting, including a campaign around tuition rates for international students. CSI said is plans to work with the Ontario College Student Associations on “tuition fairness” for international students. “CSI is leading a steering committee to develop an advocacy campaign to launch in November 2022,” CSI Associate Executive Director Sheena Witzel said during the meeting.

Another goal outlined in the meeting was the addition of Student Advisory committees which will be used to “Improve CSI’s outreach and ensure continued conversation on important elements of student experience,” Witzel said.

The committees, Witzel said, will be a great way for students to provide feedback on important issues. The first three committees will be launching in the fall semester, and will address: housing, transportation, and food services and food security, Witzel said.

The meeting also focused on the health and wellness of students. CSI board members spoke about how they would try to offer services and have fairs and other events. All these things would be set out to help students with what they call pillars of health, including: physical, nutritional, mental, spiritual, financial, and social wellness.

At the end of the meeting, CSI President Sana Banu outlined the group’s policies on some student issues such as housing and transit. The board voted unanimously in favour of the policies. The full policy document will be published during the October meeting when the board will vote on the minutes.

The meeting then showed the financials of different CSI-run businesses like the Pita Pit on campus and student restaurant The Venue. The exact numbers can be seen at the Oct. 12, 2022, board meeting.
