Sustainable Waterloo Region has teamed up with Bereaved Families of Ontario and the city of Kitchener to invite residents to plant a tree in memory of their loved ones. Sustainable Waterloo Region has been planting microforests across the region since 2021. In that time, those plots of lands have sequestered thousands of kilograms of carbon. Now, Sustainable Waterloo Region is breaking ground on their Voisin park location, and they’ve invited the public to help.

Tova Davidson’s organization Sustainable Waterloo Region has planted 12 microfrests to date. They are expected to sequester upwards of 2,000 kg of carbon in 2024. (Cameron Mahler/Spoke Online)
